Le volcan ou presque

Aujourd'hui, réveil en douceur 7:30, petit déjeuner fabuleux sous les cocotiers, près de la piscine. Yaourts, confitures, pains et gateaux fait maison.

Nous nous mettons ensuite en route pour le volcan car nous avons RDV au Pas de Bellecombe à 13:00 pour une marche avec guide.

En chemin, petite halte à Bois Court pour vérifier que Grand Bassin est toujours la et toujours accessible qu'à pied :( Bon, cette année, on va essayer d'y descendre, mais pas aujourd'hui.
Beau point de vue, mais le temps s'est couvert. Cilaos est très dégagé, mais le Volcan à l'air de se couvrir. On verra.

Today, we wake up at 7:30, and then enjoy a beautiful breakfast under the coco trees, beside the swimmingpool. Everything home made: jam, bread, yogourt, cakes ...

We drive then direction the Volcan where we have a date at 13:00 at Pas de Bellecombe for a walk with a guide.

On the way, we do a short stop at Bois Court to check that the village Grand Bassin is still there and still only accessible by foot. :( This year, we will try to walk down there but not today.
It is a nice point of view, but the weather starts to be not so nice. Cilaos looks to have nice sun, but the Volcan seems to be under the clouds.
We will see.

Effectivement, on a vu: rien du tout! Plus on se rapproche du volcan, plus ca se couvre, il y a des rafales à près de 90 km/h, il pleut, il fait froid. Et le volcan est caché derrière la brume.
Bon, on ne se décourage pas si vite, il est seulement 11:30 et nous avions RDV à 13:00. Petit café pour se réchauffer, on rigole un peu des gens qui reviennent de randos trempés et gelés. Ah qu'il fait beau à La Réunion :)

On mange notre sandwich dans la voiture qui est de temps en temps secouée par le vent. Et puis on abandonne, on appelle le guide, qui nous annoncent que de toutes facons c'est annulé à cause des risques avec les rafales de vents ... Zut alors ... :)


In fact we really saw it: Nothing at all! The closer we get to the volcano, the worse the weather gets: wind till 90 km/h, little rain, it is cold, and the volcano is hidden behind the clouds. :(
But we won't give up so quick: it is only 11:30 and our date was at 13:00, so the weather can still change :)
Warm coffee by laughing gently about the people who went anyway to walk this morning and who come back wet from top to down and freezing. It is really a nice weather in La Reunion. :)

We eat our sandwich in the car, which is sometimes shaken by the wind. And then we give up. We call the guide, who tell us that anyway they wanted to cancel the walk, because it is too dangerous with this weather... We are not unhappy ... :)

 

Bon, on redescend, et vu qu'on a pas réussit à voir le volcan en vrai, on fait une halte à la cité du volcan qui à rouvert ses portes il y a 2-3 semaines, après des années de rénovation. Ils ont très bien refait le musée, avec un cinéma 4D, ou les sièges bougent et ou on recoit de l'air chaud ou un peu d'eau selon qu'on se trouve près de la lave ou dans l'océan.

Et bien sûr, plein d'explication sur les volcans. Très bien fait.

We drive then back down, and because we could not see it live, we stop at the volcano museum, which just reopened 2-3 weeks ago after years of renovation work. They redid it quite nice, with a 4D movie, where the sits are moving and where we have got warm air or a little bit of water depending if we were closed to the lava or under the water during the short movie.

And of course a lot of explanation about the volcano. Really good done.

Du coup, il est 16:00 et on rentre à l'Echappée Belle, moi pour profiter du jacuzzi, Martin pour aller faire un jogging.

So at the end it is anyway already 16:00, and we decide to drive back to L'Echappée Belle, me to enjoy the Jacuzzi and Martin to go jogging.
